Project CHAMP

Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) and Forum for Air Quality (FAQ), have launched their project on Clean and Healthy Air Management Programme (Project CHAMP) to create “Clean Air Champions” among school children of Delhi NCR. The main objective of the program is to create opinion leaders and torch bearers, well versed with the concept of air pollution, its sources, consequences, and its scenario in Delhi and in India, who will further spread the awareness to various levels of the society. This program also envisages finding possible solutions to combat the increasing problem of air pollution. The duration of the programme is one year, which include five phases and will be conducted zone wise in Delhi NCR.

First phase: children will acquire basic understanding of air pollution, its causes, consequences, trends and solutions.

Second Phase: based on their skills and understanding, the children will form awareness raising and research and development(R&D) teams under this phase. The teams will be trained on awareness raising and research techniques.

Third phase: the different teams (awareness raising and R&D team) will conduct awareness raising and research activities at their respective schools.

Fourth Phase: involves the evaluation of the best team and the winner team will be awarded.

Fifth phase:certified CHAMP will go forward conducting activities and will continue to fight for our right to clean air.

Project CHAMP has been inaugurated at Arunodaya Public School, Karkardooma, Delhi on 3rd September, 2016. 30 students from 4 schools (Arunodaya Public school, Arwachin Public school, Laxmi Public School, DAV Dayanand Vihar public school) of East Delhi have participated in the session. The first phase of the program was very successful as students took great interest and were curious and excited learning new concepts related to outdoor and indoor air pollution. The Pre and Post tests on their awareness level and the records of the children`s feedback about the workshop showed it to be a successful event.

For South, North and West Delhi Schools, Phase I will be starting from October 2016. Nominations of participating students are invited from class 8, 9 and 10.
