IPCA, in collaboration with Schlumberger Limited, launched the Plastic Resource Management initiative in Sivasagar district, Assam, to address plastic waste generation and the lack of waste management infrastructure in the region. This partnership empowers local communities through awareness and education on effective waste management practices, encouraging residents to take responsibility for collecting plastic waste at its source. A key part of the initiative is the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) set up in Sivasagar, which carries out secondary segregation of plastic waste and channels it for recycling — creating a structured, sustainable approach to waste management in this remote region.
The Plastic Resource Management initiative uniqueness lies in its effort to bridge the waste management divide in Assam's underdeveloped areas, where infrastructure and awareness are scarce. By setting up an MRF in Sivasagar district, the initiative has paved the way for sustainability, showcasing that effective waste management can thrive even in resource-constrained environments.
